HISTORY OF THE 1939 FORD: 85hp, 221 cu. in. L-head vee eight-cylinder engine, three-speed manual transmission, live axle suspension with transverse leaf springs, four-wheel hydraulically-actuated drum brakes. Wheelbase: 112″ 1939 Fords had 24-stud cylinder heads and long-awaited hydraulic brakes. They also had important design evolutions. The headlights migrated to the peaks of the front fenders, still under Ford’s handsome teardrop aerodynamic glass covers. The hood thrust forward with a low vee-shaped grille with vertical bars that suggested the bow of a fast boat cutting through waves. The wider and lower grille aided engine cooling and gave the designers the latitude to eliminate the hood side vents. A sleek, modern design, it would continue without substantial change until new, wider and longer bodies were designed for 1941. Other changes were in the wings, because 1939 was the last year for the “continental” style convertible sedan, a distinctive and luxurious model but one which found only a limited audience. The convertible coupe also signaled an important change. The 112 inch wheelbase introduced in 1934 was being better utilized by the body designers, first at Briggs and later when the newly established design department at Ford took over body design in 1937 for the 1938 models. Increased interior space allowed Ford to introduce the club cabriolet in 1936 with an enclosed rear seat. It was offered as a complement to the rumble seat-equipped roadsters and cabriolets but its popularity gradually whittled away at the sales of rumble seat equipped styles. 1939 would be the last year a Ford came from the factory with a rumble seat. The demise of rumble seat equipped Fords ended an era and a tradition which stretched back to the birth of the Model A coupe and roadsters. The rumble seat roadster was an indispensable part of the era of jazz, gin mills and jalopies, making the 1939 rumble seat convertibles particularly significant cultural milestones.

Financing

Finance rates as low as 8.9%.

We know that classic car financing can pose a unique challenge. Although a vintage or exotic car can be an excellent investment, some financial institutions attempt to apply standard “used car” rules for financing a classic car, which in many cases can make loan approval difficult.

We work closely with many banking institutions that understand and recognize the collector value of classic cars and view them as an investment, which allows us to help you get the financing you need so that you can have the car you have dreamed of.
